ABOUT INPACE

What is INPACE?

INPACE is a Coordination and Support Action Project funded by the European Commission’s Horizon Europe Programme starting January 2024 and running until June 2027.
INPACE’s mission is to support the implementation of the Digital Partnerships between the European Union and Japan, South Korea, Singapore, as well as the Trade and Technology Council with India.
Powered by a consortium of 21 European and Asian partners, the project establishes a multi-stakeholder Hub for collaboration in digital technologies between Europe and the Indo-Pacific region and fosters long-term cooperation in key digital technologies by bringing together experts and stakeholders from both regions.

What is the context behind the project?

As the European Union (EU) increasingly strengthens its connection to Asia, the promotion of digital technologies and cooperation in this field are a high priority. In line with its Digital Compass Strategy and Strategy for Cooperation in the Indo-Pacific, the EU has established Digital Partnerships with Japan (2022), South Korea (2022) and Singapore (2023), as well as the Trade and Technology Council with India (2022). These bilateral partnerships aim to foster cooperation in common strategic areas in the digital economy and society sectors.
The mission of the INPACE project is to translate these high-level partnerships into concrete outcomes and tangible collaborations. By tackling joint priorities from the EU and its strategic Asian partners, the INPACE project aims to create a more inclusive, sustainable, and prosperous digital future for both regions.

What are the project’s objectives?

The main objectives are:

  • Support the implementation of the Digital Partnerships and the Trade and Technology Council
  • Boost international cooperation in digital technologies between Europe and Asia
  • Deepen research and innovation collaboration by promoting joint research and industrial cooperation for technology development and commercialisation
  • Inform policy, analyse synergies, and foster digital dialogues to promote convergence between digital technology and policy
  • Drive the development and deployment of key human-centred digital technologies to shape a more inclusive and prosperous digital future

How is the project structured?

Stakeholders

The INPACE Hub involves 3 levels of stakeholders:

Thematic Working Groups

The INPACE Hub operates as an integrated eco-system structured around 3 Pillars, 5 Clusters, and 16 Thematic Working Groups (TWGs).
Co-led by a European and an Asian INPACE partner organisation, each TWG addresses key focus areas in digital technology, leading to strategic outputs, including policy briefs, panorama reports, and country-specific analyses based on comprehensive desk research and surveys. The Hub fosters collaboration both within and across TWGs.

INPACE Hub

The dedicated INPACE Hub will serve as the primary channel for collaboration and information dissemination among INPACE stakeholders.
