DESCRIPTION:The upcoming webinar “Challenging issues in energy harvesting” by Hiroyuki Akinaga is organised by INPACE Thematic Working Group on Advanced Functionalities and will take place on April 04\, 2025 – 09:00 to 10:00 CET Online. \nAbstract\nEnergy harvesting not only presents us with academic challenges in basic and fundamental research\, but is also a technological platform that requires collaboration across a wide range of research layers\, from materials\, devices\, and circuit design to system design for social implementation. The energy dissipated around us has many different pathways\, so the scope of energy harvesting-related technologies is extremely broad. This is why energy harvesting requires collaboration and integration among stakeholders from various fields. \nIn his contribution\, as examples of international collaboration\, Hiroyuki Akinaga will introduce two activities related to energy harvesting\, International Roadmap for Devices and Systems (IRDS) and International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). Hiroyuki Akinaga believes that by revitalising these activities\, we can envision a future in which energy-harvesting devices become an essential part of the infrastructure of our lives as semiconductor devices. \nHiroyuki Akinaga\n(Senior Member\, IEEE) received the B.E.\, M.E.\, and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Tsukuba\, Ibaraki\, Japan\, in 1987\, 1989\, and 1992\, respectively. Currently\, he is the Principal Research Manager\, Device Technology Research Institute\, National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST). He is co-leader of the Beyond CMOS Working Group (WG) at International Roadmap for Devices and Systems (IRDS)\, Japanese leader of the research field of energy harvesting at More-than-Moore WG\, and a strategic committee member at WG of Environment\, Health\, Safety and Sustainability (ESHS). He has been serving as a convenor at International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC)\, TC113 (Nanotechnology for electrotechnical products and systems)\, WG7 (Reliability) and WG13 (Wafer-Scale System Integration). SUMMARY:The potential and challenges of two-dimensional materials for More-than-Moore applications (February 4\, 2025)
DESCRIPTION:A webinar organised by INPACE Thematic Working Group on Advanced Computing. \n\nGraphene and other two-dimensional materials (2DM) have garnered significant attention in science and engineering due to their potential applications in electronics\, photonics\, and sensing. Despite over 15 years of extensive research and proven laboratory-scale performance\, industrial adoption of 2DM-based technologies remains limited. The primary reasons include the dominance of mature silicon technology and the current technological challenges associated with 2DMs\, such as defect management\, dielectric deposition\, doping\, etching\, and electrical contacts. \n\n\nThe integration of 2DMs with silicon CMOS at the back-end-of-line (BEOL) or front-end-of-line (FEOL) presents an opportunity to expand silicon’s capabilities while addressing 2DMs’ maturity issues. This co-integration enables applications beyond traditional silicon\, particularly in optoelectronics\, sensors\, and flexible electronics. Current research highlights projects such as graphene-based biosensors for point-of-care diagnostics\, integrated photonics\, gas sensors\, and advanced flexible transparent electrodes. \n\n\nInternational collaborations at the University of Granada are driving innovations in biosensors\, gas detection\, and photonics. These efforts aim to enable high-performance\, cost-effective\, and scalable solutions for diverse industries. DESCRIPTION:Interfacing\, Interactions\, and Integration in Quantum Photonics\n\nA webinar organised by INPACE Thematic Working Group on Groundbreaking Technologies. \nRegister here \n  \n\nSolid-state quantum emitters have attracted much attention as an integrated source of photonic and spin qubits\, which are basic elements for a range of quantum applications.\nRecent advances in the interfacing\, interacting\, and integrating of these emitters demonstrate a variety of quantum resources: bright quantum light sources\, many-body quantum interaction\, and miniaturized quantum devices. In particular\, introducing nanophotonic cavities or waveguides increases efficiency and adds quantum functionalities.\nGiven their high performance and scalability\, quantum emitters are taking the next stages towards scalable\, integrated quantum systems on photonic integrated chips or fiber optics. Therefore\, all quantum operations are efficiently possible in real-world photonic platforms.\nIn this talk\, Prof. Jehyung Kim will present recent races and future challenges in scalable\, integrated quantum resources for quantum photonics.

DESCRIPTION:European Solid-State Device Research Conference\nThe aim of ESSERC is to provide an annual European forum for the presentation and discussion of recent advances in solid-state devices and circuits. The level of integration for system-on-chip design is rapidly increasing. This is made available by advances in semiconductor technology. DESCRIPTION:RICAIP and CIIRC CTU | Czech Institute of Informatics\, Robotics\, and Cybernetics CTU in Prague in cooperation with the INPACE project are pleased to invite you to an insightful lecture by Prof. Wolfgang Wahlster on 27 May 2024 at 10:00 AM CEST. \nThe lecture titled „Hybrid LxM Technologies: AI as a Booster for Industrie 4.0” will focus on the latest developments in industry and artificial intelligence. \nJoin the event onsite in Prague or online – link to the live streaming will be shared with you upon your registration. \n\nREGISTER HERE\n\n\n\nAbstract of the lecture:\nIn the next decade of Industrie 4.0 a new generation of AI technologies will take smart factories to a new level. Large Language Models (LLMs) will be complemented by Large Process Models (LPMs) and Large Action Models (LAMs)\, so that generative neural models not only predict what to say or visualize next\, but also what to do next. \n\n\nBecause LPMs and LAMs are trained on data lakes of process specifications and action sequences\, they can predict which plan to take based on a given task and thus can execute the task from start to completion\, creating more agency and autonomy in smart factories. LxM technologies avoid the effort of manually coding active digital twins\, but are able to code a significant portion of them automatically based on neural transformers. \n\n\nAlthough deep learning is the most powerful learning method developed to date\, it has already reached its inherent limits in many industrial application domains and must be combined with various symbolic approaches in new system architectures. This leads to hybrid LxM (x=L\,P\, or M) technologies that use holonic multiagent architectures for combining neural approaches with symbolic reasoning technologies such as constraint solving\, physics-based simulation and terminological reasoning in knowledge graphs. \n\n\nWe present and discuss our new roadmap for the next decade of research and innovation for Industrie 4.0 from 2024 to 2034. Some self-appointed “experts” have proposed on the EU level the new term “Industry 5.0”. But this is neither necessary nor helpful as it wrongly suggests that the Fourth Industrial Revolution is complete. In addition\, the suggested “new topics” were already focus areas in the original specification of the goals of Industrie 4.0. \nBefore we conclude\, we will present two examples of LxM applications:  the recent DFKI spin-off company XPECT\, which combines process mining with execution and compliance verification\, and the latest version of AIQUAMA\, which uses neuro-symbolic methods for zero-error assembly in hybrid robot-human teams.
